Chit Chat sent another tip that we should all know but from time to time just don’t follow. That is to really be sincere and give every one a big smile. Have you ever noticed that if you meet someone face to face and you spring on a smile they’ll always smile back, It is a marvelous beauty asset but some of us refuse to allow those smile muscles to act because of the resulting expose of unsightly teeth, If this is the case don’t be one of those. Just consult your Dentist about the necessary repairs and ask his advice about dentifrice, brushes and proper care for your teeth. Follow his suggestions conscientiously---and smile!

The Graduate Cosmetologist

Every State now requires Cosmetology School graduates to pass a rigid examination by a State board of experts. The examination usually consist of a theory and practical test. Of course these examinations differ from State to State but a Cosmetology School graduate who has passed their State exam should be proud to become a licensed Professional Cosmetologist. Those with exceptional talents with a personable personality and the ability to handle people can look forward to reaching the height of their goal in their chosen Profession..

You as their client pay the Cosmetologist or Stylist not only for what they do but what they know! I mention this only to show that the well trained Cosmetologist is competent to answer almost any question you’d ask about your beauty care. Chit Chat's Grandma's Tip

Chit Chat’s grandma was right in her day because way back then the milk-white skin of Caucasian women was just the thing. Then they took pains to see that they weren’t exposed to the sun too much. Today’s woman needn’t take such elaborate precautions but she might want to borrow an idea from grandma. Air and sunlight are good for the hair, in moderation, but too much sun can burn the scalp and cause dry, brittle hair. Just make sure you have and use your sun screen. Also an evenly tanned face is very attractive but it’s a good idea for the older woman to wear sun glasses. It’s hard to get rid of those little crow’s feet you get from squinting.

How to attain a good Posture

Hi there, here I am again with another tip from Chit Chat. I believe I heard about this one when I was in grade school. She says that you don’t have to walk around with a book on your head in order to attain a good posture. That is just a job for your memory! Chit Chat says it’s just a reminder for you to straighten your spine, to pull in your stomach and to hold your head high and your shoulders back. You should keep reminding yourself about these things for only a few days and they’ll become habit. And good posture is an important part of an attractive appearance. Our teacher had all the girls in class to walk around the room with a book on their head and all the boys just made fun because at the time it looked silly. It did help to remind us about our positure though. I sure wish Chit Chat would post a picture of herself so we could see who is sending all these goodies. Bye for now.

Who Am I ?

Here's something I think might ring a bell with you. In fact, if you're like most of us, you might have written what I'm going to tell you. It's about a person who calls their self a nice customer. It goes something like this:

I'm a nice customer. You all know me. I'm the one who never complains, no matter what kind of service I get.

I'll go in a restaurant and I'll sit while the waitress gossips with her boy friend and never bothers to look and see if my hamburger is ready to go. Sometimes a party who came in after me gets my hamburger, but I don't say a word or complain when the girl tells me, "Oh. I'm sorry, I'll order another for you." I just wait.

It's the same when I go to a Hair Styling Salon to get my hair cut. I don't complain when the Stylist gets the back of my blouse wet with soapy water and doesn't apologize or when they talk to their co-worker about everything and disregard my explanation of what I wanted. No, I don't throw my weight around. I try to be thoughtful of the other person. And when they leave hair on the back of my neck I'm as polite as can be. I don't think rudeness in return is the answer.

The other day I stopped in at the neighborhood full service gas station. I waited for almost five minutes before the attendant took care of me. And when he did, he spilled gas on my fender and wiped the car windshield with an oily rag. I didn't expect him to thank me for stopping by, and he didn't. Naturally, I didn't complain about the service. Next time I'll drive several miles out of my way to find a new service station.

I never kick. I never nag. I never criticize and I wouldn't dream of making a scene, as I've seen people do in public places. I think that's uncalled for. No, I'm the nice customer. And I'll tell you what else I am.

I'm the customer who never comes back!

That's my way of doing for getting pushed around too much. That's why I take whatever you hand out, because I know I'm not coming back. It's true that this doesn't relieve my feelings right off as telling you what I think of you could, but in the long run it's far more deadly than blowing my top.

In fact, a nice customer like me multiplied by others of my kind can just about ruin a business. There's a lot of nice people in the world, just like me. When we get pushed far enough we go on down the street to another place of business and eat our hamburgers, get our hair cut and buy our goods in places where they're smart enough to hire help who appreciate nice customers.

He laughs best they say who laughs last. I laugh when I see you frantically spending your money on expensive advertising to get me back when you could have had me in the first place for a few kind words and a smile.

I don't care what business you're in. Maybe you live in a different town or maybe I've never heard of you. But if you're going broke or your business is bad, maybe there are enough people like me who do know you. I’M THE CUSTOMER WHO NEVER RETURNS!

Don't overdo the perfume

Chit Chat and my friend have been using the internet to check out perfume sites with good name brand inexpensive perfume. I'm sure you know that a particular perfume smells differently on each individual. Again even if you like the perfume it would be wise to get the opinion of more than one person before you decide which to use. I'll send the address of some sites when they find them.

Chit Chat says don't saturate yourself with perfume! Very small quantities of the very best quality perfumes will achieve the desired result if used properly. Remember that the heat of your body will diffuse the scent of a good perfume so that it forms a sort of aura which follows you in your every movement. Put a single drop of perfume on each knee, shoulder and wrist after you’re dry and powdered from your bath and just a suggestion of a drop in the hollow of your throat. That’s all it takes to create an impression which is delicate and intriguing rather than overpowering. And remember you will be noticed.

Use a good stiff-bristled back Brush

I found out that the hardest part of a bath is trying to wash your back. So, if you can’t have a spouse or friend to do it for you just find a nice long stiff-bristled brush on-line. Just go to google or another search engine and you’ll find hundreds of sites with good brushes. My friend said that Chit Chat found this brush sites for her. You see, it’s not much fun having your back scratched if you have to do it yourself. How-ever the benefits to be derived from the vigorous use of a good stiff-bristled bath brush are many. Clogged pores are opened, circulation is improved and the skin is given a real tune-up. Use the brush first with lots of soap then use it for a combination scrubbing-rinsing operation. The results will convince you on your very first try.

Checklist for that Picture

I finally found out that "Georgie" is the name of my friend’s friend who knew Chit Chat. Now Georgie is a Hairdresser who works with a photographer who gave her this tip “for those who are preparing for a picture taking event.” This makes good sense even though I think most of us would know we should look our very best before any photo session.

Let’s pretend you’re having your picture taken today. Naturally you want to look your very best so you take particular pains with your hair. You brush your eyebrows smooth. Your make-up is applied with care and your lipstick job is a smooth work of art. You check with your mirror and decide you’re ready. This is the way you want your friends to see you.

That grooming took a little extra time but not too much and if you’re really pleased with your appearance, why not pretend---everday!

How to tip your Hair Stylist

My friend sent me this information about tipping. Suppose it could be used for all service personnel including waitresses. I would hope that the quality of the service should not depend on the amount of the tip. But again times have changed over the years and it looks like today the Artist expect a tip. My hairdresser friend told me of a client who told her on her first visit that she didn’t tip but she could expect a present from time to time. She says she still has her as a client.

As with most situations the amount of the tip depends on the quality of the service.

1. Tip the stylist 10 to 15 percent of your total bill if he or she is the only person who worked on your hair.
2. Give the shampoo person - if there is one - a separate gratuity. Typically, a shampoo person receives $1 to $2.
3. Offer a 10 percent tip in a barbershop. If you don't get your hair cut very often but usually go to the same shop, consider a $5 tip.
4. Tip the manicurist $1 to $3.
5. Use common sense for everyone else, from the hair setter to the assistant.
6. Keep in mind that a good tip to your colorist or hairstylist might help the next color job or cut.

Tips: Usually, the tip is cash and slipped to the service provider separately from the bill paid to the owner or cashier, so have some smaller bills on hand. In a fancy shop, you can add the tip to the bill and let them know how to split it. Tradition dictates that one does not tip a salon's owner, who may charge more for his or her services and therefore will refuse a tip. But these days, more and more owners are accepting tips. The best solution is to consult the receptionist to find out whether the owner accepts tips.

How to apply your Rouge

Chit Chat sent another tip about proper makeup. You should remember when applying rouge, you should keep it high on your cheeks! Don’t apply it below a line parallel with the tip of your nose. If your face is narrow, work the rouge outward away from the nose and if your face is broad just reverse the process. The proper application of rouge really models your face and it creates an impression. So make sure the impression is the one you intended. I sure hope I get to meet Chit Chat when she comes to visit my friend.

You're the Doctor

I got this tip from a Nurse friend of mine and it is a really important system to follow. Now you’re the Doctor! In your everyday grooming activities you use quite a few instruments. Comb, brushes, files, scissors, tweezers, emery boards, etc. You’d insist that anyone using any of these things on you should have them scrupulously clean and sterile in fact. Well how clean do you keep your own beauty equipment? Make it a practice to regularly clean all the items mentioned and to change powder puffs often. A dirty puff can cause blackheads and pimples. Think I’ll just send this on to Chit Chat.

How to change that Long Face

My friend sent me another Chit Chat tip about why you shouldn’t let a long face give you a long face! You’d be surprised how correct hair styling can shorten your face, widen it, narrow it or lengthen it. If your face is long, use bangs or waves of hair on your forehead to get a shorter look. If you face needs lengthening just wear your hair back completely off your forehead. If your face is too narrow fluff the hair out at the sides and if too wide, flatten the hair more closely against the sides of your head. Seems logical to me. I think I’ll ask my Hairdresser the next time I get a haircut if he learned this in beauty school. Better yet I’ll just get a style when I get my haircut next time and see if this really works. I’ll let you know the results.

Don't wear a Mask

My friend told me that Chit Chat says “Don’t wear a mask. Didn’t understand what she meant ‘til she explained that a beauty mask should only be worn to costume balls. You should use your make-up to enhance the good points of your features—not cover up the bad ones. Use shades of rouge and lipstick which are becoming to you---not necessarily the shades that are all the rage this particular season. Use a good foundation, take pains with the job and you’ll always be well groomed! I know this sounds easy but I asked my friend to see if Chit Chat could explain this a little more in detail. Will let you know when I get the answer.

Take care of that Red Nose

Chit Chat says “You can’t get a head cold from cosmetics." However, when the cold is gone your road back to an attractive appearance will be a much shorter one if you’ve had the fortitude, even in misery, to do your best by your face. That red nose won’t be so red and the skin on your face and neck won’t be quite so dry if there has been a liberal nightly creaming. Your hair will still resemble hair instead of dry grass if you’ve brushed it regularly and possibly applied a little conditioner. The worse thing about the damage that a cold does to your appearance is the coincidental lack of desire on your part to do anything about it. It’ll pay you to make an extra effort though because the sooner you’re looking right, the sooner you’ll be feeling right. I've been practiceing this before Chit Chat sent this tip to my friend.

Check your Stocking Seams

Chit Chat said she remembers her Grand Ma use to always remind her Mom to check her stocking seams before she went out. That was before my time since we ladies don’t wear those things now. The only time I’ve seen stocking seams was in some old movies. Anyhow, don't be a blur, she’s right we should check our make-up outline. Is there powder in the edges of your hair or on your eyelashes or eyebrows? If so just brush it out. Does your makeup leave a visible line somewhere between your throat and the neckline of your dress? Is your lipstick outline a little ragged? Correct these things and make it a habit to check them always before going out. It’s attention to these little details that mark the well groomed woman.

Why not count your Assets?

My friend told me that Chit Chat says to count your assets and don’t fret over your liabilities. I thought she meant my money but she meant our appearance. Pretty well cared for hair can more than offset a nose that’s - - - Well, not your best feature. Nicely shaped lips can draw attention from a receding chin and so on. Concentrate on your good points. Hair, hands, eyes, lips---and learn to make the very most of what nature gave you. Do that and you’d be surprised at how many people, in discussing you will say. “She’s very attractive, isn’t she?” WOW!! I can really use this advice.

Changing your Hair Style

You’re a regular client of your local Beauty Salon. You feel at home there and they know what you want and just how you like it styled. However, you’re thinking seriously of changing your hair-do and wonder if maybe a visit to this fellow with the foreign sounding name might not result in a miraculously becoming style for your friends to be envious over. Bosh! The people in your regular Salon know all the latest and best hair styles. They have to! Also they know your hair and what can and cannot be done with it better than any stranger could possibly know. If you want a new hair style, consult your own Stylist first. You’ll probably be better pleased in the long run and you won’t have to break your beauty budget. Chit Chat’s advice is, just don’t be a shop hopper.

Make sure your Lipstick enhances your skin tones

Hi, it’s me again!. My friend emailed me some good information from Chit Chat about lipstick colors. I thought I understood because I’ve been experimenting since my Mom finally let me start wearing some. Chit Chat says if you’re a light blonde with blue eyes, stick with pinks and light reds. If your coloring is a little darker choose a slightly darker red but avoid those with the deeper purple shades. If you’re a definite brunette with dark eyes and olive skin a rich crimson lipstick could be yours. And if you’re a redhead just use the pink to red shades. Anyhow Chit Chat says you’ll still have to experiment to find your best colors but these suggestions may save a little time by narrowing your choice. Looks like Chit Chat did it again.

Apply the Lipstick to your Natural Lines

My friend says here comes Mother Nature by Chit Chat. Her advice is that we should try to improve on Nature but don’t try to be “Mother Nature.” When applying lipstick, never try to create a mouth shape that is entirely different from your own. Just stick to the natural lines, adding just a trifle if your lips are thin and enhancing the natural curves a bit. Always use a color that blends with the natural color tones of your skin. A lip brush helps you get a clear natural outline. Just follow the curve of the lips with your brush and it will make it easier to fill in with your lipstick. My friend said she will have some good advice about how to choose the right color according to your skin tones and hair color in her next tip. So stayed tuned.

Your Feet are Showing

Your feet are showing! You don’t have to go near the water either. Present day sandals and open toed shoes put your tootsies pretty much on display so you’d better make sure they’re presentable. Give yourself a pedicure every couple of weeks, using about the same technique that Chit Chat explained about your manicure. Don’t shape the toenails in a curve however. Cut them straight across and just short of the end of the toe. Work with the cuticle as you would around your fingernail. Remember don’t cut your cuticles because they protect the nail bed and cutting them can lead to infection or nail damage. Just apply polish as you wish. You can also learn a lot by getting a professional pedicure. Your feet will feel better for this extra attention and so will you next time your shoe salesman helps you try on a new pair of shoes.
