Sprawling is a great Picker-Upper!!

Sprawl? Etiquette says “no” but beauty says “yes”! It’s a good idea to sprawl on the bed, on the floor or in a comfortable chair for a few minutes each day. Consciously try to relax every muscle in your body and close your eyes for ten minutes or so. You’ll probably have a hard time forcing yourself to get up again but in a moment or two you’ll attack your tasks with renewed energy and when evening comes you’ll be smiling more and sighing less. Chit Chat says this works well with home moms but how about the working moms? And how about the Guys? She said this tip is for all who have day jobs as most of us working folks do. If your employer has no arrangements for a rest period then the next best thing is to sprawl immediately when you get home. This is especially true if you plan to go out for the evening. Her advice is to try it and see if the results are really postive.

How to have Beautiful Eyelashes

Of course it’s the man-child who gets those long curling beautiful eyelashes and we girls just do the best we can with what we have. However regular care nd proper treatment can make your lashes much silkier and prettier frames for you eyes. Every night as you prepare for bed dip the end of the finger lightly into your face cream and rub it gently over your lashes. You’ll be astonished at the improvement just three or four weeks of this nightly treatment will accomplish. Chit Chat says that there are many beautiful artificial eyelashes that one can chose from in most drug and Department stores, The one precaution would be to be sure to follow the directions and precautions in the directions. She also says that a great tip from the "professional" makeup artist, is in order to make your lashes look like the models you see in the magazines is to put a second coat of mascara only on the outer lashes. This draws the eye out and up and gives the appearance of more length. It really works!

An Ounce of Prevention is worth a pound of Cure!

That old axiom that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is certainly true when it comes to taking care of your hands. Remember to use your vacumn cleaner attachments instead of a dust cloth. Don’t dip your hands into excessively hot water. Use milder household cleansers and soaps. Dry your hands thoroughly before introducing any outside tasks. One should choose the best hand cream available to insure beautiful hands. Even the best hand cream won’t do as much as the careful observance of these "preventers."

Everything that goes up must come Down!

“Everything that goes up must come down” has something to do with the law of gravity. This is also a handy rule to remember when applying the base coat that is used before the final makeup application. Most experts advise upward strokes when applying the base coat. But in the case of a finish application those upward strokes raise the fine downy hairs which usually lie flat against the skin on every woman’s face. Remember a few downward strokes are necessary before applying the “finish” coat. This helps to complete the operation and will avoid a slightly fuzzy appearance.

History of the Barber Pole

The barber pole has a wonderful and interesting story to tell. It's presence today keeps the story alive. It is thought to be the oldest distinguishing mark of any profession or craft, dating back before the birth of Christ. History tells us that barber service was rendered to the public at least as early as 6,000 BC. Hair and beard trimming (barbering), administering herbs (medicine), tooth pulling (dentistry), and blood letting (surgery) were all performed by the same individuals in early history. They were then called "Barber-Surgeons."

Because of the services they rendered, especially to royalty, these barber-surgeons were among the most respected and protected citizens alive. They held this respect for thousands of years. During their practice of surgery, which consisted of blood letting or bleeding the disease, a white cloth was used as a wrap or bandage. In those days of primitive sanitation, the cloth was used again and again. The barber-surgeon simply rinsed out the cloth and hung it in the doorway of the shop to dry.

Thus the red and white twisted cloth became the emblem of the profession. As hundreds of years passed, the original cloth became today's gleaming red and white striped glass pole which now represents only the professional grooming aspect of barbering. The doctors, dentists, and surgeons have long since moved away, leaving the barber pole the exclusive property of the artistic barbering profession. For those of you that are not in the Profession can now see that the "Hair Business" is a Profession and not just a "beauty operator" or "barbers" as many think of us. You are right, we are not "maids" and certainly are not "servants" What do you think?

Are you plagued by a Year round Snow Storm?

Dandruff can best be controlled by the same methods used to treat excessively oily hair. Thorough and frequent shampooing and lots and lots of brushing should be the first step.. Just before a shampoo, brush your hair vigorously allowing the bristles to get a good contact with the entire scalp area. Then shampoo and rinse very thoroughly. Rub a good antiseptic lotion into the scalp at this time while massaging the scalp with your finger tips to improve the blood circulation. Of course there are many dandruff shampoos available but my experience is that they seem to add oil to the hair and scalp. One could experiment with these dandruff shampoos but thorough brushing before the shampoo and using the antiseptic after the shampoo will do more to control dandruff than just the shampoo alone.

Some people have sensitive scalps and may be sensitive to a thorough brushing. When experimenting with the shampoos you could try Arbonne's botanical shampoo that is good for sensitivity. How to keep your Nail Polish from Chipping

My friend finally owned up that she is a close friend of Chit Chat and that Chit Chat is the Educational director of a Cosmetology School. There’s no wonder they have sent me so many grooming tips. She wanted me to understand that this tip is not the directions for a complete manicure performed by a Professional manicurist or a Student in training at a Cosmetology School. This tip is how to keep your nail polish from chipping.

Don’t do a rush job on your nails! With most women this is a last minute chore and their nails show it. You can polish your nails hours ahead of time and not worry about chipping if you do the job right and here’s how.

Remove all the old polish. Apply a thin coat of colorless polish. Apply two thin coats of your color, Apply a top coat of colorless polish, carrying the last coat over the ends of and under the edges of the nails. Let the hands dry for fifteen to twenty minutes or follow directions if you have a nail dryer. This manicure will last.

Hairstyles change in Cycles

If it’s a new hair style you’re thinking of remember one thing or rather two things. The general outline of your head from both front and sides is oval. Your hair must be styled to fit the curves of these two ovals in a becoming manner. No bunches of hair should break this oval line too prominently. A skilled Hairstylist is your best bet because they can watch the effect as they work and their experience helps them to eliminate what would be a poor hair style for you. This is the correct and proven design of a normal hairstyle on a perfect oval. A hairstyle on any other shape head and face must make the over all outline of the style appear oval.

The present generation has become so used to seeing beautiful young stars with perfect oval faces that as far as they are concerned the hair doesn’t enter the picture. It is for this reason that all the female news reporters and annalist with poor shaped faces and some out of proportion figures appear on television with long stringy looking hair. How lucky they are in today’s market. For those of you who remember the female news reporters in the early days of television can remember what beautiful hairstyles they wore. It looked like they were really trying to outdo each other. Hairstyles change in cycles and it looks like Hillary Rodham at Wellelsey college had this hairstyle two cycles ago. I know I am not the only person who looks on today’s female TV employees in this manner. Suppose that just as you finished your make-up you learned that someone was going to study your face with a magnifying glass! Would your go back and do the job over? If you would then you didn’t do the job right the first time! A good clear skin and good make-up are not accidental. They result from a careful painstaking effort. How to Arch your Eye Brows

While checking with my friend for her next tip from Chit Chat about the Arbonne lotion for one’s legs she sent me this tip on how to pluck your eyebrows. You’ve all seen those eyebrows that looked as though they’d been thinned and arched by a pair of pliers in the hands of a very inept mechanic. That wholesale, hit and miss method of eyebrow treatment can ruin an otherwise perfect job of grooming. To do the eyebrows correctly, first apply a hot wet towel to the area. Then brush the eye brows smooth. This will reveal the “strays” and you can begin the tweezer operations. Get the hairs between the brows then catch the ones below the brow line. Finally and very carefully pluck the hairs above the line but don’t touch that main eye brow line! Finger Nails are not Screw Drivers!

Do you use your finger nails for screwdrivers? Or your nails as miniature crow bars to pry off the lids of things? Many women do both and then complain about how easily their nails split and tear. If you want pretty nails don’t use them as tools. Don’t clean them with a steel file point. Don’t file them way down at the corners. Do clean them with a wisp of absorbent cotton twisted around the tip of an orange wood stick. Do use an emery board to taper them from above where the nail meets the skin. Do buff the nails frequently and buffing in one direction only, toward the finger tips. Don’t know what happened to Chit Chat on this tip. My friend informs me that it looks like those with beautiful nails already know that in order to preserve them you should treat them very carefully.

Do you want Beautiful Legs?

My friend let me know that Chit Chat says that every woman certainly wants beautiful legs because they are the first thing some members of the opposite sex see. Certainly! Frequent and abundant use of a good skin lotion will make sheer stockings show to a better advantage. Of course you don’t apply the lotion to the stockings, you put it on your legs! Seriously, sheer nylons may be things of beauty but they were never intended to protect you from the weather. Use of depilatories and exposure to the elements is very apt to make the skin on your legs chapped, scaly and bumpy. Do you have a Weekly Beauty Routine?

Changes in Todays Permanent Wave

A friend of Chit Chat says she remembers going with her Grandma when she got the old famous electric machine permanent wave. Gone are those days since they have been replaced by the chemical ones. She says her Grandma got her perms once a year and never had it cut until it was time for the next perm. You can see those old hairstyles in many of the older movies you see on TV today.

Contrary to some belief today’s permanent waves are not permanent. Unless your hair has some natural wave one should have a perm to help support the style. It is true that present day’s perms relax approximately fifteen percent (15%) after the first shampoo and style. It is good advice to wait at least twenty four hours before your new perm is shampooed. Constant blow drying and stretching with the styling brush or curling iron requires the hair to be conditioned during each shampoo to help it keep its elasticity and sheen. Your Styling Salon should suggest the stylist do your shampoo and style within two weeks after the perm to see that the condition and results are satisfactory. If they are not then is the time to make any needed corrections. Your Salon should be glad and happy to correct any permanent that does not perform as you and the Stylist agreed it should before the service. With the newer Styles of today and the fast pace of our society many people choose to do their own hair. Is Pulling one's Hair good Therapy?

When one talks about hair pulling it sounds as if we were talking about a battle. However hair pulling of the right kind is very good for your hair and scalp. If you’ll move your hands around over your head, closing them on bunches of hair with a gentle pulling motion you’ll stimulate scalp circulation which is very good for the hair itself. Just another little thing that takes practically no time and pays big dividends in beauty. I know this sounds healthful but just when does the average working girl have time to pull and yank on their hair. Suppose all the straight stringy haired ones could but we girls have to wear hairstyles where I work. I do demand my hairdresser give me a hard, stringent, scalp scrubbing every time I have an appointment. Proper Application of Neck Make-Up

Those African native women who go in for neck stretching also cover up their necks with a lot of bracelets or necklaces or what ever you want to call ‘em. Unfortunately our necks, while much shorter are exposed to public view and thereby present a make-up problem. Always make sure your make-up is applied to the neck as well as the face. Don’t chop the foundation and powder line off short just under the chin. It takes a little more time to do the whole job but the result is worth it! I know you’ve seen this because there must be a lot of women that just don’t know or are in a hurry where I work. After being reminded my friends just say "Oops! and thanks a million! Relieving the early evening Tenseness

Have you ever been so tired after a long day on your feet that you just want to go home and go to bed? I’ve felt this way many times. My friend said that Chit Chat told her that to relieve that late afternoon or early evening tenseness before an important date or party, treat yourself to a facial massage. Pre-party tenseness is often felt by hostess and guest alike and massage is very relaxing. If you’re having your hair done at a Salon, include a facial by their operator or, if your preparation is at home do the job yourself. Use plenty of good cream lubricant and take a full fifteen minutes of massage. Lie down for a little while afterward if you can. Oh, and I’ve tried a ten minute soaking in a hot tub before I lie down. It sure worked for me. The Graduate Cosmetologist

Every State now requires Cosmetology School graduates to pass a rigid examination by a State board of experts. The examination usually consist of a theory and practical test. Of course these examinations differ from State to State but a Cosmetology School graduate who has passed their State exam should be proud to become a licensed Professional Cosmetologist.
